SOME
OF THE HISTORICAL TREASURES, RESORTS AND BEACHES OF CRETE
Having
over 1000 km. of coastline Crete has clean sandy beaches, rocky,
rugged beaches and cliffs
faces that rise vertically from the sea so the is something for everyone. The
earliest civilization were the MINOANS some 4000 years ago and they lasted
a 1000 years. Some of the treasures of that period are now on display at the
remains of the Palace at KNOSSOS. I have also recently visited the excavated
ruins near Malia of what is believed to be the oldest human settlement on Crete.
Lying at the
crossroads
of 3 continents Crete has over the centuries been invaded , conquered and
liberated many times: despite this the Cretan people are hospitable and
welcoming to all visitors to their Island. For myself though and as I have
got older I am now quite happy to do no more than spend a couple of weeks in a
Hotel relaxing with a drink or two, enjoying the local food, soaking
up the sunshine, and wallowing in the warm waters that surround Crete.
