Rhodes/Archangelos
When
exploring the Island from Pefkos via the main road North to Rhodes
town it is worth
turning
off and visiting the largest village on Rhodes, Archangelos . Laying in the
Valley of Aithona the many Blue and White painted buildings show just how
patriotic its inhabitants are, and they even have their own dialect.
Archangelos was renown for the production of sturdy leather boots that
gave those working in
the
fields protection from snakes. Hand woven rugs and high quality
exquisitely decorated pottery is still produced there. You are most
welcome to visit and walk around the potteries and watch the craftsmen and
women making and decorating the pots and other ornaments.

7 Springs
Returning to
the main road and going inland soon brings you to Epta Piges. You can
drive up the
hill
into the this beautiful, cool wooded park where there is a small cafe and large
picnic area. An even better way to enjoy the Seven Springs is to take the
scenic walk that takes you through a woodland trail that takes you to to point
where the 7 springs empty their cool. crystal clear and eminently
drinkable waters into a rivulet that
become
a waterfall and then run down through a 200 meter long tunnel to a
reservoir. This lake is then used to irrigate the Orange groves on the east of
the Island . If you like to get your feet wet you can walk from the
springs and through the tunnel to the reservoir
