My tour of  Sithonia peninsula was a really enjoyable experience. It allowed enough time to take a closer look at the places we visited. The first stop was at

Nea Marmaras

A short distance away is  the tourist  resort of  Porto Karas . This huge holiday complex was built by the Greek shipping tycoon  Karas whose  personal fortune was second only to legendry Aristotle   Onassis.

The Port Of  Koufos.

Koufos is one of the few deepwater harbour in the Aegean sea and is accessed  through a Koufos_2.jpg (62635 bytes)Koufos.jpg (55259 bytes) narrow channel that is almost invisible from the sea. During World War 2 it was used as a submarine base by occupying German forces. Today is once again a peaceful harbour  although I understand that it is occasionally used by NATO forces during exercises.

SARTI.

A sweeping horseshoe bay with almost white sand that is lapped by crystal clear Aegean  water that dares you to resist the urge to wallow in it
